Our Story
Since 1783 and the 1st balloon flight in France by the Montgolfier brothers, Hot Air Balloons have provided onlookers with dreams, imagination, celebrations and adventures. Ballooning has certainly evolved over the past 200+ years into magical experiences enjoyed worldwide! In modern Hot Air Ballooning, Kenya was the original location for the first commercial passengers to fly in a Hot Air Balloon!
Our parent company first took flight in Toronto, Canada operating a single balloon over 35 years ago. Fast forward to today and we are collectively one of the largest, most experienced Hot Air Balloon companies, the world over. With an extensive background in International Operations, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Training and Corporate Relationships, the team at Kilimanjaro Balloon Safaris is committed to our clients and the ballooning community as a whole.
Our Pilots
CAPTAIN DANIEL BECKWITH
Daniel was born in the UK and spent his childhood mostly in Germany. He grew up around balloons in a versatile family business offering passenger rides, corporate advertising, balloon dealership, certified repair facility and flight school.
Naturally, Daniel decided toΒ follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather as a third-generation balloon pilot and obtained his license in October 2000.
Since, he has accumulated over 1200 hrs, flying balloons in Germany, Spain, UK, Netherlands, Namibia and Kenya.
CAPTAIN JEROME WATTERS
Captain Jerome Watters has been flying hot air balloons for 35 years. From Quebec, Canada, he flew for pleasure and travelled to balloon festivals across North America for the first 15 years.
He finally turned his passion into a job, and loves every minute of it! Captain Jerome has flown in Canada, USA, France, Namibia and Kenya and we are so proud to have him part of our team at Kilimanjaro Balloon Safaris!
Our Team
Our ground crew is made up of capable, local balloon handlers.
We pride ourselves in hiring as many local team members as possible and provide ongoing maintenance and training programs.
Our Camp
The camp has been designed and built with many of the most current Eco-friendly concepts, including:
- Fully integrated Solar system, powering our camp 23.5 hours/day, with energy generated from the sun.
- Custom solar water heaters, provide hot water 24-hours/day, to all onsite facilities,
- All drinking/cooking water has been through a full purification process,
- All staff housing was completed using latest technology EPS panels, for maximum seasonal heating/cooling comfort for all staff,
- Installation of an Evaporative Cooler, providing natural cooling functions with zero-environmental impact. This simple technology allows us to maintain a cooler room that is generally 15-20c, less than the outside temperature with zero electricity/power. We use this cooler room for storage of all fruits, vegetables, eggs, beverages etcβ¦ensuring freshest quality products for our guests.
Corporate Social Responsibility
We proudly and proactively take Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the highest levels.
From the day we began building our camp, we installed a freshwater line for our local community. Our fundiβs (tradesman) regularly visit local communities and assist in maintaining their water wells. We have made our vehicles available for local Special Events and functions (weddings, celebrations, and community meetings) as well as to assist the community with health emergencies and visits.
We have proudly participated with fundraisers and ensure our community is best served.
Currently, we are working on a plan to bring internet/Wi-Fi to our local schools, as well as an online learning program to further the local students desires to be educated and grow to compete in the international marketplace!
Feel free to contact us by email, Phone/WhatsApp or Chat and we will be thrilled to work with you, or your organization to develop an effective program to enhance and make a difference in each of the children in our area!
